What is your style?

For ages most of the general population have followed and worn dresses from what a select few have chosen every year. These fashion designers, masters, tailors, gurus have always looked at finding out what trends are catching up and how they can guess it before it hits the market. Some even went of elaborate plans to make a particular fashion a hit. In India Karan Johar is known to have introduced GAP hoodies and tees to the teenage audience through the film Dil Wale Dulhania Le Jayenge so much that everyone from the fruit and vegetable vendor to the guy on a Yamaha bike were wearing counterfeit tees without knowing that the original brand GAP was non-existent in India at that time!

Trends come and trends go. You stay the same! The fashion police look down upon and sneer about the choices that many people think are cool and have glorified horrible looking selection as well. I have always, reiterating the word - always, had my own fashion and have been comfortable in being so. Very few times, I liked what was being thrust on to me as a fashion trend we cannot miss and hence the style has become the same almost all these years. I am glad I did stick to a particular style that remained with me so much as I have always been photographed or seen on the same trend - my trend.

My choice of fashion has two main reasons:
  1. Is it comfortable?
  2. Is it made from good material?
Simple huh? Well! not for many people. Some people have closets that are much bigger than the one in Chronicles of Narnia! And yet have always wondered what they should be wearing. I have heard and read a lot of people talking about the body shapes and stuff but don't you think it is too much to think of? While I always want you to be fit and healthy so you would live longer (Isn't that the idea?), I would recommend you take the trends off your chest for a while and look at life more easily and make things less complicated. Wear whatever your heart tells you to. Make sure YOU are comfortable. Don't bother about what others think. What they would say. Worry about you being presentable and being nice and don't give everything else a damn! You look best when you are happy and comfortable. Just make sure you have a smile on your face when you step out. You are mint new!

Having said that, I have had my share of suits and boots and have rocked them too. Sometimes mom wanted me to look so (on my graduation), sometimes the occasion demanded so (my wedding being one such occasion). But just can't have then every day.

So choose your fashion choices wisely and go with what you like. Choose your style. Make one that is your own, personal and close to your heart. Something you would be comfortable in and can pull off. I myself like a black tee, blue jeans and sport shoes any day, every day.

Social Media Leader of the Year

The new age marketing has been redefined by the social media interface. The amount of time people spend on social media is amazing or in other words overwhelming. Managing a brand's presence online and offline is a tough job and gets more difficult when you are pitted against the best in the business - clientele. In this context, this comes as a blessing and recognition to the hours spent in achieving what we wanted. A big shout out to my team, family and friends. Thank you.

I won the Social Media Leader of the Year award at the 'National Awards for Excellence in Digital Marketing and Social Media'. Some of the pictures from the event.

Bring home a Deepam, shine bright like a diamond

When you love someone more than anything else in this world, how do you express it?  Is there a description or a sonnet that can convey your feelings with authentic delicacy, passion and ease that they would just understand what you want to say?

Swarovski collection in Kanjeevaram silk
Well few people can. What would you gift to the most beautiful person in your world? When you are in search of beautiful gift for your beloved for a special occasion, you might as well choose something that compliments not just their tradition but also accentuates their individuality. If you are still searching for such a matchless gift, head to Deepam Silks and check out their Swarovski collection!

Get dressed for any occasion @ Deepam Silks Crystal Silk wonder
Inspired by centuries old traditions of Kanjeevaram silk sarees that mark the auspicious occasions like no other, invigorated by glittering stars in the night sky and the varied colors that leave you enchanted, Deepam Silk's Swarovski collection is ready to usher in beautiful blessings of the season.

As we were witnessing the unfolding of original silk wonders that come out of the handcrafted Kanjeevaram master weavers, lights danced off to the silent yet rhythmic chants of the star studded signature motifs, reliefs, corals and gopurams. I was simply bowled over as the finest silk sarees spread majestically before us and later adorned a beautiful lady who walked with poise and attitude in various colors that secretly whispered silent stories of love, joy, patience, commitment and promise that were personified in the yards of pure silk. What were crystals doing romancing with silk? Well the world's leader in cut crystals decided to go in tandem and learn to collaborate with some of the best weavers the world has ever seen and bring out the most gorgeous Swarovski collection of Kanjeevaram Sarees for Deepam Silks.

Tradition and style @ Deepam Silks Swarovski collection of Kanjeevaram sarees

The beautiful borders stand out and you know it is a Deepam even when you are in a crowd, said Pramila C, who was our host for the evening. "People call us and book appointments, give us color combinations and prebook some of our collections even before they book tickets to India!" "A Deepam Kanjeevaram silk saree is a must in every function. The occasion is incomplete without a Deepam Saree and it is this traditional love and sentimental value of our customers that motivates us and encourages us to come out with more designs and style without diluting the traditional values."

Pramila C, Deepam with Madhu
What is in vogue now? Well bright colors and bridal colors are back. Especially fuschia, yellows, blues and oranges are a must for this season. The well-crafted minute designs in the pallus are accentuated when the saree folds or moves but because you got the crystals embedded in them you now have small little sparkles that steal a look here and play a hide-n-seek there drawing your attention to the otherwise missed crafty work.

Elegance and tradition packed in one @ Deepam Silks Swarovski collection

So what can you expect from this collection? Classy Kanjeevaram silk sarees that let you wear Indian heritage and culture while elegantly allowing the light to play with the naughty Swarovski crystals that keeps you graceful yet exuberant. Will you be so immersed in the intricacies of the saree design or would you be wondering how the numerous stars of the night sky have some to adorn your loved one’s feet? The answer is none. You would be overawed by the joyous reaction and the simple serene beauty of your beloved’s smile that would be brighter than all the small clean cut Swarovski crystals in her dress.
The finest silk  @ Deepam Silks
What are you waiting for? Bring home a Deepam and shine bright like a diamond!

Talk to your children

What marketing or marketers are teaching your kids today?

As a marketer, I am more inclined to ads that appeal and show how my product will solve your problem and how it is better. So all my communique is a result of such actions that trigger the need in you. Would I or any other marketer think otherwise when sending out the message? I don't think so. Because it is a tough world out there and not all are as lucky to have their own sweet time unless you are too high up in the organization or in a company that believes in responsible advertising.

As a parent I am on conflict and cynical about how I can reduce the unwanted content that my child is exposed to and forced to form opinions that are difficult and dangerous. I don't want my child to grow in that atmosphere. But can you or I actually control what they see? I don't think so. Children are being exposed to malicious content more easily these days and more importantly at a much younger age than you and me. So I would find time to be with my child and explain that it is important to look past the marketing or advertising gimmick and see the actual message. Explain why it is important to verify the claims, research the ingredients, look beyond the paid blogs, articles and huge mass of unrealistic content. More importantly I would teach her to respect her body and who she is.

And I would try and make a positive contribution to the marketing arena in whatever small way I can to make sure she grows up and is proud of what ads I am involved in. Would you?

Do what you love this year

Have some really good plans and ideas to do this year.

Some of them are to learn a new language and spend more time with my lovely wife and the world's most beautiful daughter and most importantly have fun.

What about you? Like Salman seems to say in every episode of Bigg Boss last year, do whatever you want to. Just make sure you do it sincerely and have loads of fun.

Here is a good video post from Tom Thum to kick off.

Down with fever

I have fever, cold and body ache. I am not at work after about 6 months. I am bored. My little angel is down with cold and fever. Wify and mil are down too. Especially because I cannot sleep due to my nose and I cannot play, hug and fight with my little daughter(as I might pass on my virus to her). She is so tired, sleepy and feverish. She is so tiny and I have to let her rest. So what do I do. My phone doesn't help me in the game.

So I head to kitchen make a really good spicy chicken. Hope we all are up by tomorrow. here is a pic from the final dish.

Roti sabji

You appreciate things better when you cannot have them. You appreciate things better when there is no price tag attached. You appreciate things better or value those things more which you miss.

Most of you who stepped out of home and miss mom's food would understand it or some of you who are still lucky to be at home would miss it.

This is a pic of what we had the first day at the Indian hotel, Sun and Sands in Manama, Bahrain. After reaching thousands of miles away to a different country, the first thing we seek is Indian food. Amazing how psyches work!

To give a marketing angle to this post, here it is...

Do your clients miss you? Will your service be missed? If not, what the hell are you doing????

Am back

After many days of staying away from my blog, am back for good. Having been associated with the launch of Go Lite in Bangalore and Don't Bite Me in India, was on the road setting up the distribution and retail channel, which means handling a millions things and yet keeping cool.

Thanks to an excellent team that supports and stretches with a smile, it was a wonderful journey and we realize that it has just begun. You might find one of us on the field with Go Lite tees and blue jeans. If you find a Go Lite poster or leaflet when you walk in to a pharma store in Bangalore, you know who is behind it. And yes if you wanna lose weight, you got to Go Lite.

Don't Bite Me is all set to hit stores soon and you have it ready for the mosquito season, a new comprehensive, innovative solution to keep insects away from you and your family.

Lots of things learnt, lots more to learn, will keep posting regularly from now on. Hop on.

Got to keep running

Got my own pedometer at last after a long tiring search. It is HJ 113 Omron, one of the best in its category. Counts up to 10000 steps gives me a customized exercise pattern and how many calories I have burnt per day and has a seven day memory.

I hate to walk but with this am doing pretty good walking. My sis Divya is right. Started with 500 mts around 4 days and reached 3 km per day. You should try walking with something like this. I hope I will keep this habit in my continuous fight to get fit in the next 6 months. Working on what I eat too. Let us see if I can reach my target of losing 10 kgs in the next 6 months. Want to get back my shape. Wish me luck.
