Winning is a habit

Make winning a habit, whether it is big or small a win is a win and it matters a lot to boost your confidence and the zeal to push forward. Actually winning is a strategic step you need to take. Have a goal, plan the steps to reach the goal, work towards them eagerly and don't give up. Constantly evaluate the steps and see if you need to improve on them. Be mindful of the competition and see how you can beat them. As long as you are performing better than the last time you tried is a win in itself.

When you are looking to win and are doing it regularly it is a good sign. What if there is no competition? Well you can have one - yourself. Take walking for example, plan and walk a bit more and in better time when you can and if you exceed from yesterday, it is a win.

When you are obsessively passionate about your work and are changing the world on bit at a time everyday, then you are a winner. Find a work that does exactly this and be fanatic about it. Unless you are deeply passionate about going to work today, then you need to keep looking and find what do you like to do. Like Steve Jobs said, winning is a good habit and you need to keep it all the time. Trust me once you win, you will cherish that feeling so much that you want it again. Having a passion to come out on top would motivate you to the ends of this world and beyond.

Passion is the key

What is life without a passion? What is the use of owing the best car without the fuel? Passion is vital to any success. When you see Usain Bolt breeze through the 100 metre track like a lightening, what we see is that Usain makes it look easy. What we don't see is the pain and the struggle that goes behind the training and thousands of hours to make that happen.
Every moment when you are building up to something, creating something you are forced to think to quit, to give it up and move on to easier tasks and find out the less painful way to success. Unless you have the passion to follow it up. Unless you have the passion to push you further, to unleash the demons in you, to fuel you, to let you run the longest with the last drop of energy in your body. Passion is the key for success. Passion drives you, drains you, encourages you, kills you but passion makes you win and makes you a hero.

Have a passion in your life, find what you love and make it your life's purpose to be the best in what you love. Learn what you need to, acquire the skillset required to do that, train like hell, train like there is no tomorrow. Learn, learn, learn and then learn again. You cannot should not must not and will not give up. Because giving up is not an option. Giving up is for duffers. Giving up is for losers. For when you give up, you already lose. You let yourself down. Don't push yourself back. Push ahead. Push harder. Push yourself. You need to do this and move ahead. Surge ahead. Win this. Close this. Seal this with a victory and your name written on it. That is possible with passion. Guess what, if you are passionate enough you can win this and make it look easy when you do that.

Check out this video of Usain Bolt training. How many times he throws up, tires down and looks to quit but he doesn't. He pushes on to be faster. His passion drives him.

Never give up! Cheers to passion.

Monday Blues: It is okay to fail

What if I fail?

So what? No one is actually bothered if you fail. Yes, there might be a few guffaws and some smart jokes about how you failed and stuff but why are you bothered?

The ability to convince your mind to get up from the lazy chair and attempt something that made you explore an uncharted territory is commendable. You should be proud of yourself and keep going at it till you win.

It is okay to fail but not okay to lay back. Get up and take charge. Make sure your next attempt is one step closer to success. Measure your steps and see how you can achieve this and move ahead.

19 Victim Versus Leader Distinctions

19 Victim Versus Leader Distinctions:
#1. Victims talk about people. Leaders talk about ideas.
#2. Victims procrastinate around their goals. Leaders execute on them.
#3. Victims enjoy watching things (like TV and video games). Leaders like making things.
#4. Victims are distracted. Leaders are concentrated.
#5. Victims abhor change. Leaders Adore change.
#6. Victims read what everyone reads. Leaders read what few do.
#7. Victims associate with other victims. Leaders spend most of their time with superstars (and thereby dramatically elevate their productivity and success).
#8. Victims are stuck in the past. Leaders are inspired by the future.
#9. Victims resist hard projects. Leaders seek them out (knowing it refines their chops).
#10. Victims work at mediocrity. Leaders view work as an opportunity to pursue Mastery.
#11. Victims give most of their time to leisure. Leaders spend a ton of time on their learning.
#12. Victims tear people down (because it makes them feel better). Leaders lift others up.
#13. Victims are rude. Leaders are polite.
#14. Victims practise negativity. Leaders are unreasonably positive.
#15. Victims can’t wait to retire. Leaders are afraid to retire (why retire when you’re having so much fun building something important, growing more leaders and producing value for the world?).
#16. Victims waste time. Leaders exploit time.
#17. Victims achieve things for the applause. Leaders achieve them for the fulfillment.
#18. Victims sleep late. Leaders rise early.
#19. Victims view work as a means to pay the bills. Leaders view work as a way to change the world.

My great wish is that these ideas inspire you to Lead Without a Title, lift your teammates to their next level of wow and grow a great company.

How to win an argument

You are doing your phd in psychology right? Can you tell me how to win a fight? I get asked this question many times.

Frankly speaking, I am not sure how. However, I will try and give you some steps to do that.
  1. A quote from my favorite book - The Bible: "Don't get involved in foolish and ignorant arguments that only start fights" (2 Tim 2:23)
  2. Respect other's opinion
  3. Stay away from people who are jobless
  4. Don't waste your time with irritating people
  5. Don't try to convince people out of their own ideas
  6. Losing an argument is sometimes good if you are winning the person
  7. Why bother!
Do I need a phd for this? I don't think so. I think it is more about common sense :)

Analyse — all things!
Accept — only good things!
Avoid — all questionable things!

Monday Blues: Damn the cheerleaders

What if you are not included in the team of your aspirations?
Why should you bother?

Everyone has a dream team, a team with a lot of idealistic thoughts and perceived additives which you always want o be in. Now that is a whole lot of perception and chance you want to take to mold yourself to suit/fit into that group

Look for what is special in you. What is good for you. What is the one thing you can excel in. What is the one thing  you are good at. Now that is done. Screw the naysayers, screw the world.
where you might not even matter to anyone. Would you change yourself to match/dance to someone else's music and tunes? I don't think that is something you should be doing.

Don't give a damn and start your own training. Train hard. Train well. Train scientifically. Train unapologetic. Your goal is to win and win over yourself.

Ignore the cheerleaders, they never get to play the game. Be the player. Be the game. Form your own team.

Monday blues: Live it to the full

Life is short folks. Why not live it to the full?

This monday, don't spend time on what is boring, holding you back. Spend time on what makes you happy. Fight off the blues by living it to the full. Make this your friday, if you catch my drift.

Count your blessings

Too many times in life you look at things and feel you were left out when God was blessing. This is depressing, disappointing and lures you to start cursing luck and how it could have been. Then you should look at how winners are made. This kid seems to be having the best time of his life. But look closely and you would find a hard truth. His smile and confidence would defeat you. Isn't it amazing?

Adversities come and go on life. No one's life is filled only with them. May be your share is more tilted towards them.. now. It is going to change. YOU can change it. Just keep smiling and don't let your confidence wither away. The greatest winners and heros are not the ones who won when everything was helping them. Don't lose confidence in yourself. October is a month of challenges turned to awesome wins. Go and make yourself one. The title asks you to count your blessings. But in reality you can not. Keep smiling and winning. Happy October!

The freedom writers

What can a common citizen do to change any one else's life? Well, you should watch The Freedom Writers. This film discusses how Erin Gruwell used a normal classroom to transform the lives of many students.

The film is based on a book by the same name, in which the real Erin Gruwell’s class wrote about their experiences as gangbangers and then their attachment to Gruwell’s class. So early on the movie approaches their lives from their skewed perspective. Her students believe themselves brave soldiers in some war, and fill their diaries with empty justification for the racial hatred and brutality they’ve idealized. Eventually Erin gets through to them, breaking through their wall of keeping it real to serve them a little bit of reality. Are her breakthroughs with them moving? Yes. But her methods are incredibly naïve and you will love watching it.

My rating: 7/10 (Must watch)
Got the pic here.

Hard kaur!

Taran Kaur Dhillon never understood what it was to be a twelve-year-old. Traumatic experiences took her to a cold U.K., where she was bullied around for her skin colour. Today, she is defining hip hop in India and the U.K."Nobody can bully me into singing what I hate. I eat, sleep, s*** hip hop and I want to keep it just that way", says the U.K.-based star popularly known as Hard Kaur, who is now defining hip hop music in India. Yes her name is Hard Kaur and pronounced 'Hard Core.' Quite a name!

She is the same person whose "Move Your Body" (Johnny Gaddar) is on air. Hard Kaur has worked on her music independently and featured on global club hits including "Ek Glassy", which is still the number-one club anthem of India. Her songs are about a woman's place in a male-dominated world, with the urban desi experience thrown in. She is associated with Breakthrough, an organization working on HIV and domestic violence issues, and has written a song for women's empowerment. After singing on the Bollywood soundtrack for Johnny Gaddar, she is working on other projects with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. She even got the opportunity to share the stage with stars like Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams! On her first solo record, Supa Woman, she works with promising international producers including 45 WAX, D-Boy, Urban, AC Burrell, Asif (Fusing Naked Beats) and Tigerstyle.

Stay Mad

Mad stands for Make A Difference. At KFC they keep a board and a marker which asks for suggestions unlike the regular feedback book that is available at other places. KFC has a feedback and suggestion book as well. I got to see that most customers have mentioned their feedback here on this board which is then transferred to the suggestion book. Once the same is implemented the person who suggests it will be notified and sent a coupon.

Do your organization treat the feedback and suggestion given by the customers or does that go un-noticed? History has several examples of companies which followed and used customer feedback eveolve as the best ompanies as their focus was on what the customer wanted and not what they had to offer. This made them move towards the customer.

So are you MAD?
Is your organization MAD?

Balapuwaduge Ajantha Winslo Mendis

Balapuwaduge Ajantha Winslo Mendis worked as a gunner in the Srilankan army. No wonder he is successful and passionate. Old habits die hard. When winning becomes a habit you need to be really persistent in what you do.

Despite being a star cricketer, winning many awards Mendis enlisted to the army as his father, who was the sole breadwinner for his family, died of heart attack. He didn't complain! All winners are hard workers and beat many odds to win. On the other hand we have people cribbing and whining. His laurels in cricket have earned him promotions in the army ranks. He is a Second Lieutenant now in the Sri Lankan Army!

Are you a winner?
