Setting base

Am in the process of setting up base for two excellent products(Go Lite and Don't Bite Me) and let me tell you am enjoying to the core. Traveling in hot summer sun on the streets of Bangalore, meeting businessmen, consumers, retailers, understanding psyche and tricks of the trade real time and keeping myself ahead is an awesome experience. Drained, parched and too tired to do anything else by the time I reach my abode, too exhausted to come online and blog and hence the delay in the posts. Thank you for coming back to the blog. Will try to be more frequent from now on.

The summer rains in the evening come as a pleasant blessing. Last night it was drizzling and after a particularly long day, couldn't resist so went out for a walk. After the invigorating walk, could get out and do more today. Fitness has become more of a relaxing technique than just getting back to shape these days. You should try this too. When stressed, go for a walk, a long one.

99.9%

What is 99.9%?

99.9% is when...
  • You almost comprehend
  • Follow most of what should be followed
  • Do things half heartedly
  • You are just 10 minutes late
  • You pretend
  • You compromise
  • Accept what is half-right
What 99.9% is not?
  • 99.9% is not 100%
99.9% is not acceptable.

Save power?

When you are reading this you are consuming power. Power that can be used for several other purposes. Thousands of people out there sit in air conditioned offices, drive in cars fitted with temperature conditioning agents that help you feel better. All this to ensure you are saved from the burnt of the sun and feel cool. Saving power, hitting a high note while talking about reducing the carbon footprints has become a fashion these days. More so when a company that supplies air conditioning in your office and home speaks about it. You know which brand I am talking about.

While the ad campaign speaks about saving power while using the ac as it has to be used and reducing your power bill, the total message is lost as n one cares about it. Now I am aware that the brand is aware of what it is doing and that it doesn't expect its audience to walk out in the sun and ensure there is proper ventilation to save power but in being different from the brands and maintaining a we care for you message helps it stay out of the regular messages that come and hit you and are lost. When I go out to get my house air conditioned, I would definitely remember the brand. There is your marketing greens well spent.

Well, there is a power cut and the ac is turned off. Save power?

Tendya

Time Magazine's quote on Sachin covers what we all feel.

"When Sachin Tendulkar travelled to Pakistan to face one of the finest bowling attacks ever assembled in cricket, Michael Schumacher was yet to race a F1 car, Lance Armstrong had never been to the Tour de France, Diego Maradona was still the captain of a world champion Argentina team, Pete Sampras had never won a Grand Slam. When Tendulkar embarked on a glorious career taming Imran and company, Roger Federer was a name unheard of; Lionel Messi was in his nappies, Usain Bolt was an unknown kid in the Jamaican backwaters. The Berlin Wall was still intact, USSR was one big, big country, Dr Manmohan Singh was yet to "open" the Nehruvian economy. It seems while Time was having his toll on every individual on the face of this planet, he excused one man. Time stands frozen in front of Sachin Tendulkar. We have had champions, we have had legends, but we have never had another Sachin Tendulkar and we never will.”

Happy Birthday Tendya.

I'll Go On Loving You

Alan Jackson's song is on repeat on my lappie.

When I look into your soft green eyes
....
I'm reminded what I feel for youAlign Center
Then I'll go on loving you
I'll go on loving you
I'll go on loving you

Me in the rain or the wind
Or the moon up in the sky
The spin of the earth or the change of the tide
I don't know what brought us together
What strange forces of nature
Conspire to construct the present
From the past

Then I'll go on loving you
I'll go on loving you
I'll go on loving you

Genelia overdose

Genelia, Asin, Deepika and Dhoni. All face it. Watching few IPL matches on the small screen has exposed me to an overdose of the celebrities mentioned above. Too many advertisements and brand endorsements confuse the consumer with the association of the celebrity and the brand behind it. Brands should be clear about what they are trying to get the consmer remember after watching the communication. Information being given out should be consistent and not at all confusing. All the money spent on Genelia, Asin and others in the company goes waste on me and other consumers like me as none of the brands appeal to me or do I remember any of them.

Every brand that is advertising in this manner is running a risk of going over the consumer's head. The only ads that stand apart are the zoo zoos and Limca ones which seem to stand out and register. Mere celebrity association isn't taking your brand anywhere. Check which ones would stand out and how you can register your brand in the consumer's mind space. That's marketing greens well spent or else it is going down the drain. What say you?

Humbled by Limca

Limca Book of Records recognized my achievement. I am the youngest, in India, to have four post graduate degrees. I completed four PG degrees by the age of 27 while the previous record was held by Deepak Bansal at 29 years.

विद्या ददाति विनयं विनयाद्याति पात्रताम्
पात्रत्वाद्धनमाप्नोति धनाद्धर्मं ततः सुखम् ५

vidyA dadAti vinayaM, vinayAdyAti pAtratAM |

[(true/complete) knowledge gives discipline, from discipline comes worthiness, from worthiness one gets wealth, from wealth (one does) good deeds, from that (comes) joy]

Am humbled by the response. Let me start by thanking God Almighty for his blessing. My Mom and Dad deserve a special mention at this juncture for their love, perseverance and motivation all through... Thanks for driving the importance of being well read and humble. But for you.. this means nothing. My friends who are J and making others J, thank you. For all the wonderful institutes, luminous faculty, authors, books and so on.. thank you. As I said, am humbled.

Why am I doing this? Here is an answer from Sanskrit “Subhashithani”

Na chor haryyam, cha na raj haryyam Na bhratri bhajyam, na bharkari Vyaye krte vardhate ave nityam Vidya dhan sarva dhan pradhanam

Not so philosophical though, I just read for fun.
