Identity Crisis
This shows that the social acceptability of the lady comes from the man she is related to. Women still change their names after the marriage. Either her father's name or husban's name along with her name is a must. As if she has no identity of her own. It may not be wrong but the fact is in modern society the indicidual has to be known for his/her achievement. It seems a distant future where a woman would be known for what she is herself and stand alone without the support of man. On that day India would have achieved another high.
Hope the Gajini does well at the box office and may be Asin brakes the mould and steps out as more than Aamir's new gal!

that has been prepared in the gym".
In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who was that man who hindered the growth of his colleagues and the
company itself. The excitement in the gym was such that security agents were ordered to control the crowd within the room. The more people reached the coffin, the more the excitement heated up.
Everyone thought: "Who is this guy who was hindering my progress? Well, at least he died!".
One by one the thrilled employees got closer to the coffin, and when they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood nearby the coffin, shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest part of their soul.
There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it could see himself. There was also a sign next to the mirror that said:
"There is only one person who is capable to set limits to your growth: IT IS YOU.
You are the only person who can revolutionize your life. You are the only person who can influence your happiness, your realization and your success.

Un-Rahmanic
We all know how good Rahman is at surprising and touching your chords when it comes to music.
17 years later what has Rahman got up his sleeve? Can he surprise me again with his freshness? May be Yes. But I bet many of his listeners would be able to make out a Rahman song in whatever language it is. This particular song, Kabhi Kabhi Aditi..., from JTJN is not the same. Listeners cannot guess it to be from Rahman. Its good but its fresh, breaks the clutter and Rahman has created a song which is Un-Rahmanic and succeded in winning the audience.
Any Brand will succeed in gaining more land if it can move on and win more hearts, fans and create a fresh image in the consumer's psyche. Rahman is too good at it.
Parrot vs Chartered Accountant
Every morning in the southern part of the country, mostly in my home state of Tamil Nadu, hundreds of astrologers sit below a shade, usually a tree and predict the future of their 'clients'. Their tool is a caged parrot. The mechanism - the parrot when allowed to come out of the cage is trained to pick one booklet from many that the astrologer spreads out.
And based on the clues printed in that particular booklet the astrologer predicts the future of his clients. Mostly the questions are predictable - problems relating to cash flows, business, finance, health, children and of course marriage. Years of experience has taught the astrologer to give non-standard yet satisfactory replies to these standard questions even to the most intelligent clients. Interesting, isn't it? Or is it mastery of the human psyche?

Are you complaining?
You may ask, what's so special about this 21-year-old when there are hundreds of students passing out from various IITs and joining big companies like Google? Naresh is special. His parents are illiterate.
He has no legs and moves around in his powered wheel chair. (In fact, when I could not locate his lab, he told me over the mobile phone, 'I will come and pick you up'. And in no time, he was there to guide me)
Ever smiling, optimistic and full of spirit; that is Naresh. He says, "God has always been planning things for me. That is why I feel I am lucky."
Read why Naresh feels he is lucky.
He reminds me of Nick. So are you still complaining? Are you trying to find excuses?

Wanna fight?
Every interaction you have with others may blow up resulting in venting your frustration. It may be when you are driving, buying, selling or even chatting. The worst thing is at the end of all the effort you feel it could be avoided. Most of the times emotionally charged people invite trouble and feel happy when they are at the receiving end of the pain. Guilt pains.
Though it is hard to avoid emotional situations, its best to reconcile before leaving home. Its always better to say sorry to your partner than fighting with someone else. Next time you have the fight, cool down and compromise before stepping out.

508 Batpod
If you think a 360 is a wide tire, this bad boy sports a pair of 508s! Machine guns are mounted up front, Batman actually lays down on the tank, which moves up and down and his arms fit into shields which somehow rotate around the frame to do the actual steering. There are engines in the hubs of each wheel. The footpegs are 3 1/2 feet apart on either side of the tank.
Jean-Pierre Goy is the stunt rider who is the only person to have actually ridden this so far which he has been doing for the past few months somewhere in England.
Hey, you wouldn’t expect Batman to ride a Gold Wing would you?

Logistics Management
As the distance increased the weight and the number of items he needed and carried increased. Thus began his search for a system to handle his luggage. The search continues to this day!
Over the last few thousand years man has found out that he needs to carry few things that are needed and things which he can’t get at the place he is going to travel. Everything needs logistics service. Transportation, military, production, communication, businesses, etc. are all dependent on logistics to ensure a proper supply and continuity.
It’s said that Napoleon was defeated by the lack of good logistics. If the great Pyramids stand in the seven wonders of the world it is due to the excellent logistics solutions available in Egypt for the movement of the huge rocks, people, food and other utilities. Our own Taj Mahal was built by more than 52000 workers from over 24 different countries, 15000 horses and donkeys, 80000 cattle, 1000 elephants over a period of 12 years. Lack of proper logistics to control a country so big and population so vast was one of the reasons which drove the British out of India.
Man realised the need for a logistics service long ago and developed it as a science and an art called Logistics Management.

Paper Statements vs E-statements
A bad experience may cause you to take extra caution and hence the person ends up asking for paper statements to ensure that there is no future flaw. The sense of security and 'I am ready' feel takes over.
It happened to me once. I first accident I had ended with my palms injured and it took a long time for them to heal. The next time I met with the accident my hands automatically went up ad ended without injuring them. I see this as a innate behaviour of the human mind, may be a part of the defence mechanism.

Managing Failure
Kalam: Let me tell you about my experience. In 1973 I became the project director of India's satellite launch vehicle program, commonly called the SLV-3. Our goal was to put India's "Rohini" satellite into orbit by 1980. I was given funds and human resources -- but was told clearly that by 1980 we had to launch the satellite into space. Thousands of people worked together in scientific and technical teams towards that goal.
By 1979 -- I think the month was August -- we thought we were ready. As the project director, I went to the control center for the launch. At four minutes before the satellite launch, the computer began to go through the checklist of items that needed to be checked. One minute later, the computer program put the launch on hold; the display showed that some control components were not in order. My experts -- I had four or five of them with me -- told me not to worry; they had done their calculations and there was enough reserve fuel. So I bypassed the computer, switched to manual mode, and launched the rocket. In the first stage, everything worked fine. In the second stage, a problem developed. Instead of the satellite going into orbit, the whole rocket system plunged into the Bay of Bengal. It was a big failure.
That day, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, Prof. Satish Dhawan, had called a press conference. The launch was at 7:00 am, and the press conference -- where journalists from around the world were present -- was at 7:45 am at ISRO's satellite launch range in Sriharikota [in Andhra Pradesh in southern India]. Prof. Dhawan, the leader of the organization, conducted the press conference himself. He took responsibility for the failure -- he said that the team had worked very hard, but that it needed more technological support. He assured the media that in another year, the team would definitely succeed. Now, I was the project director, and it was my failure, but instead, he took responsibility for the failure as chairman of the organization.
The next year, in July 1980, we tried again to launch the satellite -- and this time we succeeded. The whole nation was jubilant. Again, there was a press conference. Prof. Dhawan called me aside and told me, "You conduct the press conference today."
I learned a very important lesson that day. When failure occurred, the leader of the organization owned that failure. When success came, he gave it to his team. The best management lesson I have learned did not come to me from reading a book; it came from that experience.

Fighting Inflation
Manufacturers have also tweaked package sizes — reducing weight while maintaining price bands — in order to indirectly pass on the burden to consumers. “Britannia Industries Ltd had done that — reduced the grammage but kept the price same."

To stick or not to stick?
Sachin and Pepsi have separated. Period.
What does this tell you? Was Sachin pushed over other younger players by Pepsi? Does it mean his Brand image, value and sense are no longer appealing? I don't think so.
Sachin has been choosy about the brand he endorses and has a good team that decides. To think Sachin has no backup plan is silly. The question is what would happen is Sachin moved over to the other brand. I feel Sachin would be able to bring in more customers to the brand that when its without him. The reason is that the beverages as a product is a low involvement product and people don't ask for a brand and don't stop consuming other brand just because someone endorses it or has ceased to do so. But if I am selecting a 1.5 litre bottle I would love to have Sachin's pic on it. Let me be clear here I am no fanatic fan of Sachin.
I remember reading this is 'Cricket Talk'. Sachin was travelling on a jet back to India from South Africa tour. He was offered a soft drink in a glass by the air hostess. Before consuming Sachin asked if this was Pepsi to which the reply was Coke. Sachin put the glass back on the tray and asked for Pepsi and the reply was there was no Pepsi on board. Sachin smiled and asked for plain water. An elderly gentleman was sitting two rows behind him and having observed this went and asked him why he did this to which Sachin said, "I am the Brand Ambassador of Pepsi and so I shouldn't!" Sachin received a revised royalty option 2 days after he landed. Surprised Sachin's office called up Pepsi. The elderly gentleman on the flight was the Senior Vice President of Pepsi! That he does when he no one is observing him!
If this is the loyalty he shows I think he can sell any brand. One of the reasons sachin has been around for a long time is in his ability to push himself beyond what is his limit, in his ability to readjust, realign and refocus. It is something incredible, and hence I am just waiting to see someone capitalize on his brand.
Just imagine Sachin dressed in red on a Coke bottle, or in Orange for Tropicana, or even a new Sachin flavor!

The Power of Apology
When you are sure that the customer is pained by what you/your product might have done the best thing is to apologize. Now some feel apology is not needed.
I think apology goes a building the brand value, its credibility and tenor. When you acknowledge that you have done something wrong and want to correct it people trust you more and would like to give you a chance. After all don't we all falter?
Now does it end with an apology? No apologize and repair!
High End Mobile set for 2000?
Mobile manufacturers through the Indian Cellular Association (ICA) estimate that 600,000 to 800,000 Chinese unbranded phones are making their way to India every month, accounting for 8 to 10 per cent of GSM-technology mobile phones sold in the country.
These are not entry-level phones but mid-level, feature-rich products at aggressive prices between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000. Most of these, branded mobile manufacturers said, would cost consumers at least three to five times more if they came from them.
According to research firm IDC, China shipped 85 million GSM handsets in the last fiscal. And it says China's percentage share is likely to go up since these phones offer swanky features ranging from 3 megapixel camera, terrestrial TV, music and MP3 players.
"This is an open and competitive industry and these products come through an open channel. The entry of Chinese products follows a fair amount of competition for all players," said Sunil Dutt, country head for Samsung's mobile business in India.

What say?
The mechanic shouted across the garage,"Hello Doctor!! Please come over here for a minute."
The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic.
The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked argumentatively, "So doctor, look at this. I also open hearts, take valves out, grind 'em, put in new parts, and when I finish this will work as a new one. So how come you get the big money, when you and me is doing basically the same work? "
The doctor leaned over and whispered to the mechanic.....

Long Walk to Freedom
As a young man, Mandela became disenchanted with non-violence as a form of political protest, and, in 1961, he co-founded the Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation). The militant group coordinated a sabotage campaign against South African military and government targets, and even considered all-out guerrilla warfare should Apartheid not be lifted.
But, after being condemned to life imprisonment in 1964 and branded a terrorist, he saw the ultimate fruitlessness of using violent means to achieve peaceful ends. According to Mandela himself, Mahatma Gandhi became a major source of inspiration, and he soon inculcated the core tenets of satyagraha (the philosophy of non-violence).
Following his release from prison in 1990, this marked change in temperament allowed Mendela to pursue a policy of reconciliation and negotiation, rather than secession and violence. Ultimately, he became South Africa's first black President and helped the nation transition from a brutal, segregated sham-republic to a flourishing, multi-racial democracy. For his efforts, in 1993, Mandela would win what is arguably the world's most prestigious honour: the Nobel Peace Prize.
Today, on the occasion of his 90th birthday, we salute both the man and his Long Walk to Freedom.
Tiger salutes one of the few people who mastered 'Consumer Psyche'.
Lead or Manage
Some succeed in managing things and win for a situation but end up painting a Manager picture. A leader, on the other side, does not manage the situation but ends up setting an example. Though the situation is not as winsome as the first case it paints an excellent example.
What would be your style? Managing for short time result or Leading for a long time result?
I think it is better to Lead. Makeshift work is always shoddy!

Why Manmohan will win?
- Inflation is very high and no party can afford an election
- Nuclear Deal will be passed even when BJP comes to power
- CPI will not join BJP
- Strategic level decisions are done by IAS officers and not politicians
- Rahul Gandhi is not ready to become a PM now

Launching Imran Khan
Just observe the launch of Imran Khan. Timing is planned as the college started. Promotion is planned with the teaser ads and posters. Simple story about 20 somethings high on life which you can easily connect to. Rehman belts out the music. Imran borrowed his own clothes to dress up his characters.
Aamir is quite a good manager as you can see from TZP and JTJN.

Think Again
What did we miss out on by not paying that fortune for a multiplex movie watching experience? We missed out on the stale air in the theatre, the air conditioning that is probably bad for your health, the heavily fattening, overpriced milk shakes, and the annoying titters and comments of people in the row behind who find the movie boring but have nothing better to do with their time, money or their lives.
The rising cost of leisure activities will affect the upper middle class soon as the consequences of global recession hit them in the next fifteen minutes.
....
What if we all spend less, even if we do have spare money? .... Think of all the no-expense leisure activities and you will be amazed at how creative you can get. Fly a kite with your kids or play a board game at home. You can make the kite and the board game yourself or with the whole family. Spend less, borrow less, and pay off your debts but binge on love and fresh air.
The best is still for free.

Lessons from a Pencil
Praveen Reddy sends me this...
Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box.
"There are 5 things you need to know," he told the pencil. "Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be.
"1 : You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone's hand."
"2 : You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a better pencil."
"3 : You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make."
"4 : The most important part of you will always be what's inside."
"And 5 : On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write."
The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.
Now replacing the place of the pencil with you. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.
1 : You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God's hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.
2 : You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems, but you'll need it to become a stronger person.
3 : You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.
4 : The most important part of you will always be what's on the inside.
And 5 : On every surface you walk through, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to do your duties.
How true!

Thought
The Samsung Experience
At Samsung we went to buy a TV. Look at the following observations.
+ve:
- Huge choice
- Spacious showroom
- Very helpful, knowledgable salesmen (about 4 ppl around us when we were choosing)
- Good price
- Nice ambience
-ve:
- Lot of delay in making the bill
- Credit card machince not working
- Five forms to fill! (It took a good thirty minutes)
- No option to deliver the TV home
- No salesmen interested in us after the sale
Having a good showroon and stock does not invite the customers retracing their steps. The small things you do to ensure the customer is happy when leaving.
Always Close Strong. It is as important as Opening Strong.
