Chinese? No papa

Its official now. No more tolerance towards the Chinese mobile sets in India. Addressing security concerns, the centre has notified the customs department to only allow imports of mobile handsets after the declaration of the 'International Mobile Equipment Identity' (IMEI) numbers of each handset.

Official estimates are that more than 8 lakh phones are being sold every month for the last 3 years! these are high end cheap versions without the IMEI code with out which it is difficult to trace them. If you own one you need to get a software costing a meagre Rs100 can be downloaded into the handset for an IEMI number to be added to the handset. Check with your service provider about this.

My suggestion is sell it and get a new genuine one.

Desi-beats, triangles and Kareena!

The campaign, which breaks on television today, will show Kapoor as a simple girl who finds her own stature as a young vibrant Indian woman after her fairy godmother introducing her to Desi Beats. Pepsi is bullish on Kapoor’s chiming ‘No fun without desipan’ campaign to take the market by storm.

“Desi Beats is our answer to the triangle proposition in the market. Kapoor’s vibrant persona, pan-India appeal and confident attitude make her the right fit for endorsing this new Frito Lays creation,’’ says Gautham Mukkavilli, the managing director of FritoLay and now also the president (India region) of Pepsi.

For Kapoor, 28 and one of the highest paid actresses in filmdom, Pepsi is the eighth endorsement to fall in her kitty this year, making her the highest paid actress from tinsel town in the ad world. After a brief hiatus from films last year, Kapoor returned with her newly sculpted figure last year and the cash counters haven’t stopped ringing for her since then both in terms of films and endorsements.

Brands dealing in cosmetics, personal care products, jewelry and lifestyle products have lapped up the opportunity to leverage her star power given her connect with the youth. This year she was roped in by brands like ITC for its Vivel soap, Head & Shoulders, Globus, D D’mas for Geetanjali, Anne French and Emami and Airtel, even as her contracts with ICI Paints and Citizen Watches drew to a close. Her contract with ITC, which at Rs 5 crore was thought to be the highest for her this year, has now been topped by Pepsi, putting her in a commanding position in her peer group. Consistency

I have heard of many examples for consistency and never-give-up attitude. But these bees have meat all my expectations. Time and again they have been burnt, killed and scared away but no matter what the next day there are back. Many die, are smashed but their determination never ends.

As a team they rebuild what has been destroyed, fallen, burnt to ashes. In these dire times, if you have been effected, you need not lose hope. All you need to do is to start again, with renewed vigor, passion and hope.

You are fired.

Not a good word to hear right? We are downsizing and you are going home. How does this sound?

Isn't this natural in this recession. Some friend of yours or a relative's friend has been downsized. Does this bring a bad feeling in you? Do you feel insecure? I would too.

But is there something you could do to be safe from these bad times. No matter how powerful people you know it would be difficult to stay put. The simple solution I feel for this is to keep delivering. Contributing more than your peers, more than what I expected from you. Is there a limit for performance?

So will you be the one who is safe when bad times hit the company and some are laid off? I cannot assure you. But it keeps you safe and fit to get another one.

Bet on Gold

In this time of crisis all over the stock market what is the best option of investment? Obviously the traditional way of saving: Gold. The price of gold never drops below a certain level and even if it does it is better off than the stock market. Now with the stock market expected to drop as low as 6000 points many people will be moving to gold which would cause its price to raise. So better buy now.

No 'Best Man' please

Many people are scared of challenges. Even small ones. It usually is displayed when you are asked to answer a question or take up a project or volunteer for a new assignment. May be the fear of failure scares them. I feel this genuine and understand why some don't want to get into the turmoil. Of course not everyone succeeds. But is there a 'Best Man' for the job? I don't think so. It depends on how fast the person can adjust to the new environment and mould himself and his team to achieve the goal.

We had an assignment today and the person who volunteered was the one who was least expected to do it but surprisingly did it beautifully! You don't need to depend on your 'Best man' to do all the work. Give others a chance too and let them shine! Who knows they might be better than your 'Best Man'.

High End Mobile set for 2000?

Mobile manufacturers through the Indian Cellular Association (ICA) estimate that 600,000 to 800,000 Chinese unbranded phones are making their way to India every month, accounting for 8 to 10 per cent of GSM-technology mobile phones sold in the country.

These are not entry-level phones but mid-level, feature-rich products at aggressive prices between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000. Most of these, branded mobile manufacturers said, would cost consumers at least three to five times more if they came from them.

According to research firm IDC, China shipped 85 million GSM handsets in the last fiscal. And it says China's percentage share is likely to go up since these phones offer swanky features ranging from 3 megapixel camera, terrestrial TV, music and MP3 players.

"This is an open and competitive industry and these products come through an open channel. The entry of Chinese products follows a fair amount of competition for all players," said Sunil Dutt, country head for Samsung's mobile business in India.
