Saw a close save today on Hosur road. I saw a foot ball that came bouncing on to the road from a house and a kid followed chasing it. Till now saw it only in movies but this was real. The kid was around 13-15 years The Indica would have hit him straight unless the driver veered off braking. The kid ran away with his ball. If you expect this from a kid old enough to know that he has to check the traffic and then cross what would you expect from children younger to him?
Parents should ensure they have an eye on the kids when they play, especially the ones near the road. It is practically impossible for the drivers to keep looking for stray kids. But if there is a ball bouncing to the street its only natural to expect a kid to follow. With summer blooming you need to take extra care of kids.

Lack of planning
Something applicable equally in Hyderabad or Bangalore or Chennai.
We all know how anything in Delhi can cause traffic jams : weddings, rallies , festival Jhankis , Republic Day parade rehearsals , Pragati Maidan Exhibitions . The latest addition to this long list is Board Exams . The young examinees , exhausted after a long spell of late night swotting , are expected to report at their Exam centres at ten am sharp . It is singularly bad timing that clashes routinely with office rush hour traffic . Since delay in reaching exam halls means barred entry , tempers run high and parental tension mounts as cars , two and three wheelers , school buses and ordinary buses all snake through office rush hour traffic , all trying to overtake the others and making it almost impossible for anyone to reach their destination on time . Things are complicated by the fact that the examination centres are housed during the Boards , at schools other than the ones where the kids study . This mostly prolongs the distance and creates more tension since parents must drive down unknown roads .

CSR + Advertising
Sarah has an excellent idea for advertising and CSR activity. Chalk a traffic route from one point to another in the city and help the traffic police maintain the traffic. These volunteers will carry placards which will advertise and give a continuous message to onlookers. Also they will treat the violators of the traffic by giving flowers and chocolates.
This would solve a two-fold objective: free advertising space and CSR. I suggest get enough coverage in the press. Talk about safety, promote helmets and seatbelts. Hyderabad needs initiatives like this. It should work in your city if it has traffic like Hyderabad. Gandhigiri anyone?
